🎧 Audiobook Check-in: "Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda"

Basic summary: Simon is email penpals with someone who is in the same school as him but he doesn't know who it is, just that they're gay like him. Someone reads his emails and blackmails him.
My thoughts: There were times were I thought 'I'm too old for this' and times where I thought 'this is relatable'. And I didn't even go to public HS. And of course I got all the references (except reborn doll, I regret looking that up). There was a point I looked up the trailer because I remembered it had been made into a movie, I was worried it would spoil me on who Blue was but nope, I got lucky. I don't know if I should watch the movie so soon after reading the book so I'll probably wait a while. The book really keeps you guessing on who Blue is, though I had a strong feeling about it and it proved correct, though I still wavered a lot until the end. Simon made it hard by finding multiple guys attractive and then there was that red herring lol. When he did learn who it was, I walked around at work clutching my heart and grinning, they were so cute. :') This is very much a coming of age story first and foremost.
I see that there's a second book focused on Leah, I definitely wanted to know more about what was going on with her.
The main reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because I wanted more communication than we got. I know it's realistic for teenagers but I just wish we got to see Simon tell Leah or Abby the truth about the emails and Martin for instance (I'm not counting the random drunk guy who hit on him not knowing he was underage).

-An older boy hits on Simon and gives him alcoholic drinks not realizing he's underage - when he does, he gets him back to his friends.

About Me: Been on dreamwidth for about five months now. For a while I've mostly used my journal as a personal diary, but recently I've wanted to make more public posts about the various things I enjoy. I've kind of distanced myself from being online everywhere else, but I'm still up for meeting new people here. I'm ideally looking for other active journals to read and maybe become mutuals with. Don't have to be in the same fandoms, but as long as we have some common interests then that's good enough for me.
I mostly post about: Just whatever I get up to in the week (mostly shorter posts). I'm also trying to make a habit of journaling any media I get into, but that's definitely a skill I need to work on.
My hobbies are: Writing, music, language learning, reading, gaming
My fandoms are: Various anime, comics, games etc. that I can't list out (my interests tend to change a lot)
I'm looking to meet people who: Neurodivergent and/or queer people, nerds who post about fandom/media often (especially meta stuff but that's just personal preference), people interested in languages, people who post about cooking or just anyone who wants to see me scream into the void about things that vaguely matter to me
My posting schedule tends to be: Anytime I want
When I add people, my dealbreakers are: Anyone under 18, not too picky with anything else but as long as we still click in some way then we're good (I think me saying that I'm queer should be enough of a signal though)
