Good morning, afternoon, and evening!

We're doing some database and other light server maintenance this weekend (upgrading the version of MySQL we use in particular, but also probably doing some CDN work.)

I expect all of this to be pretty invisible except for some small "couple of minute" blips as we switch between machines, but there's a chance you will notice something untoward. I'll keep an eye on comments as per usual.

Ta for now!

Late submissions will be accepted up to 1 week after the event.

General Guidelines

  • You can submit fanfiction, drabbles, podfic, poetry, sketches, a mixtape—whatever medium you feel passionate about! There is no minimum word count.

  • This event is meant to be for fun—don't feel like you have to create something perfectly polished in order to participate (although if you want to, you can!)

  • We encourage you to cheerlead others' work by commenting and sharing. A kind comment or tag can go a long way!

  • The main (SFW) prompts are open to all ages, but you must be 18+ to create NSFW works.

  • SFW works can be up to T-rated. They can contain swearing, light substance use (alcohol, smoking), mild suggestive language, "fade-to-black" or implied sex, but can't contain explicit sex or graphic violence.

  • NSFW works can be M- or E-rated, and must be properly tagged with kinks and relevant content warnings. Please take care to warn for topics like suicidal ideation and suicide, especially if you are exploring them more graphically than they are shown in the text of the game.

  • We do not allow the use of generative AI for this event.

FAQs

  • Can I combine days or prompts? Yes, you can do that if you wish. You can also combine SFW and NSFW prompts.

  • Can I include other pairings? Yes, OT3s and polycules are fine, as long as there is a focus on the Fran/Adrian dynamic.

  • Can I interpret the prompts broadly/loosely? The prompts are meant as inspiration, and you're welcome to interpret them how you want to! We've tried to make them open ended to give creators the option to make them their own.

  • Can I combine the Fradrian Week prompts with prompts from other fan events (like AA bingo)? As long as it's okay with the organizers of the other event(s), we're fine with that!

Have fun, and happy creating!

30s

I mostly post about:

every day interactions, projects i’m working on, movies, mostly just my every day life! i’m probably going to start posting some photography too.

My hobbies are:

photography, cinema, writing, art in general, cooking, reading, watching obscure films & shorts, learning italian, thrifting, collecting vhs tapes

My fandoms are:

not really in fandoms much, but some of my media interests include: horror (halloween series, five nights at freddy’s, no i’m not a human, giallo films, killer7, deadly premonition, etc), speculative fiction (kathe koja especially), psychological thrillers, internet ephemera, weird niches in general. i’m really into things like mannequins, dolls, masks, and animatronics as well.

I'm looking to meet people who:

are artsy & weird! people who always have a project going (doesn’t have to art related - stem can be included here too), activists,

My posting schedule tends to be: just returned to dw (lifelong online journal-er though) sand i am fairly busy so it’ll most likely be weekly

When I add people, my dealbreakers are:

not really anything besides the obvious! just be respectful & tag warnings appropriately :)

Before adding me, you should know: i had a deadjournal since i was 11, i think that says everything about me hahaha

AWS outage

DW is seeing some issues due to today's Amazon outage. For right now it looks like the site is loading, but it may be slow. Some of our processes like notifications and journal search don't appear to be running and can't be started due to rate limiting or capacity issues. DW could go down later if Amazon isn't able to improve things soon, but our services should return to normal when Amazon has cleared up the outage.

Edit: all services are running as of 16:12 CDT, but there is definitely still a backlog of notifications to get through.

Edit 2: and at 18:20 CDT everything's been running normally for about the last hour.

Ferris Wheel Press Review

Many of the stationery people that I follow on social media rave about these pens and ink from Ferris Wheel Press. I decided to get two fountain pens and a couple of bottles of ink in August.

I have some thoughts.

First of all - no complaints about the inks - they are amazing, gorgeous!

The first one is called Copper Carnival. A lovely brown with hints of glitter. Perfect for autumn journaling!

Next is Frozen Fortress. This was part of a line released under license from Warner Brothers when the last Superman movie came out. A gorgeous teal that looks amazing on my bullet journal paper.

I don't have as much positive to say about the two pens that I got.

The first is called Book of Botany in their Carousal pen line, for $90. It is very pretty, although it's a lighter green than showing here:

The barrel is aluminum and I got the fine nib. It writes very well, and feels great in my hand. My issue with this one is the converter. All of their pens come with a universal converter. However, the converter absolutely will not stay put on this pen. Every few days it works itself off the connector and I have to take the whole thing apart to push it back in place, getting ink all over my fingers in the process. I have it loaded with the Frozen Fortress above. Overall, the aggravation is manageable and I enjoy using this pen.

The second one is unusable. I suppose that's what I get for buying a $22 fountain pen (although my $25 Pilot Metropolitan has lasted for years and writes beautifully). This one is Lost in the Leaves, also in the Carousel line.

The barrel is plastic, and it comes with the same converter as the other pen. It also has a fine nib. I absolutely cannot get it to write. My original idea was to load it up with the Copper Carnival ink above. That has glitter, and I know that can sometimes clog pens. When it wouldn't write with that ink, I emptied it, soaked it in rubbing alcohol, cleaned it out, and tried another ink. This time was Windsor & Newton Calligraphy ink in sepia. Same result. Finally I loaded it up with Noodler's Ink in Feather, which I know damn well works because I have it in some of my other pens. No matter how much I tried, this was what I got with this pen:

There you have it - I highly recommend their inks. As for their pens, they have some for $180, maybe those would perform better. But I cannot recommend the Carousel line for the problems that both pens have. I will say that the packing is gorgeous and I couldn't bear to throw it away.
